Welcome to the Cherrybrook Public School Band Program.
The Cherrybrook Public School band plays an important role within the school’s extra curricular activities. The band’s focus is to expand the students’ music education and help them to develop a passion for music and in particular their chosen instrument.
The Band program is coordinated by the P&C association volunteer band committee comprising of four bands.
· Training band
· Intermediate band
· Concert band
· Big band
Training Band is for students in Years 3-6 that begin learning their instrument at the beginning of Term 1. The first year of the Band program for Training Band students focuses on learning the fundamentals of playing an instrument and encouraging a love of music. The Training Band rehearse once a week on a Wednesday morning from 7.20am-8.30am.
Intermediate Band is for students in Years 3-6 that are normally in their second year of playing. The Intermediate Band rehearse once a week on a Tuesday morning from 7.20am-8.30am.
Concert Band is an auditioned band that is open to any student from Years 4-6. The Concert Band are the main performance band for the school and rehearse twice a week on a Monday morning from 7.20am-8.30am and a Tuesday afternoon from 2.55pm-4pm.
The Training, Intermediate and Concert bands all compete in up to three competitions each year as well as performing at school assemblies, soiree evenings and family concerts.
Parents are responsible for organising private instrument tuition for their children. The band committee assist by providing names of local instrument tutors and this is found in the last few pages of the Band Handbook.
Big Band, also known as a Stage or Jazz Band, consists of saxophones, trumpets, trombones, bass guitar, percussion and keyboard. This is an invitation only band and children must be playing in the Concert band to be invited. The Big Band rehearse once a week on a Wednesday afternoon from 2.55pm-4pm. They have multiple performances throughout the year, both at school events and within the local community.

If you wish to join the band program, we hold a band information session in September inviting all interested parents of students in Years 2-5. More information will be made available through our school online newsletter, Enews and school website.
