The band program enables children to enjoy playing music as part of a group and develop teamwork and a sense of achievement. The band program is open to students in Years 3 to 6. Practice sessions are held before and after school in the school hall. Please see our Band program page for further details.

Cherrybrook Public School basketball is a parent-run sub-committee of the P&C who organise teams to go in the local basketball competitions. These competitions are held outside of school hour and parents are responisble for getting children to the various venues where the games are held. Teams are entered in both the Horsnby Spiders (based at Thornleigh) and the Hills Hornets (based at Castle Hill) competitions.

Currently, teams in the Hornsby Spiders play on the following days: Years 1/2 on a Monday afternoon, girls Years 3 - 6 on a Tuesday afternoon and boys Years 3 - 6 on a Wednesday afternoon. All Hills Hornets competitions run on a Saturday.

Each team requires a parent volunteer to manage the team and a parent volunteer to coach the team. Parents are also encouraged to assist with scoring during the games. The school court is available before and after school and on the weekends for teams to book for training. We currently run two skills training sessions for the younger children. Year 1/2 boys is on a Wednesday morning from 8am and Years 1 - 4 girls is held on a Monday morning from 8am.

Best Start is designed to identify each student's literacy and numeracy skills and understanding at the beginning of Kindergarten. The purpose is to help inform the development of quality teaching and learning programs for all students.

For the first week of the school year parents are asked to register for an appointment for the completion of the Best Start assessment.

Many parents enjoy sending in cake/treats to share with the class for their child's birthday. If you intend on sending in any cake/treats please see your classroom teacher.

If your child has specific allergies you may like to send in a bag of appropriate treats to your classroom teacher that your child can enjoy.

Parents can also order a 'birthday bucket' from the school canteen for your child's class.

Several class teachers maintain their own class blog for students to use and showcase the work in their classroom. All teachers send home a permission slip to the families in their class to request their permission for student work, photos and videos to be uploaded to the blog. Some teachers may also set their class homework to be completed online. Please see your classroom teacher if you have any questions.

The school receives book club order forms from Scholastic. These are sent home with students and orders need to be completed by the due date.

Students may be eligible for subsidised bus travel to and from school on the government buses. Children wait for buses at the New Line Road exit. They should carry their School Opal card with them while travelling to and from school. Please contact to apply for a School Opal card.

* As with the car park, parents are asked not to park in the bus bay.
