Transition to high school
Starting high school is an exciting milestone. The move from Year 6 to Year 7 brings new experiences, greater independence and opportunities for students to learn, grow and make new connections.
We support our Year 6 students to feel confident and prepared as they take this next step in their education.
Choosing and enrolling in a high school
Cherrybrook Technology High School
A welcoming, innovative learning environment with diverse opportunities for students to achieve, connect and discover their strengths.
Pennant Hills High School
A diverse school offering broad opportunities for students to learn, develop skills and discover their passions.
Cherrybrook Technology High School, part of the Cherrybrook Community of Schools, and Pennant Hills High School are the most common high school pathways for our students.
Every student is entitled to a place at their designated local public high school, which is determined by their residential address. Families can also express interest in other public high schools.

High school brings some exciting changes. Students can look forward to:
- learning a wider range of subjects
- having different teachers and classrooms
- following a timetable and moving between classes
- developing greater independence and responsibility
- meeting new people and making new friends
- exploring new activities, interests and opportunities.
Becoming familiar with these changes can help students approach their first year of high school with confidence.
Getting ready at home
Parents and carers can help children prepare by encouraging them to:
- organise their own school bag and belongings
- become familiar with using a timetable
- develop routines for homework and preparation
- practise their journey to and from their new school
- talk positively about the opportunities high school will bring
- ask questions and talk about anything they are unsure about.
